TDI Advanced nitrox Diver course in Playa del Carmen
TDI ADVANCED NITROX DIVER COURSE IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN
- 3 Days Minimum - $285/day - *price based on 2 divers. Single divers please add $35
The TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver Course expands your knowledge of diving with enriched air mixes from 21% to 100% oxygen, to a maximum depth of 130 feet/40 meters. You'll learn advanced dive planning and the techniques and protocols behind gas switching, so you can extend your bottom time on dives that don't require decompression stops.
This course sits right between recreational and technical diving — it's also a prerequisite for Decompression Procedures.
We focus on advanced dive planning using at least two different nitrox mixes, and on the equipment configuration required for carrying multiple cylinders. You'll train in a redundant configuration, either backmount or sidemount — you should already be comfortable with your equipment, with solid buoyancy control, trim, and propulsion technique going in.
This course opens the door to a different kind of diving — one where you're not ending a dive early just because you ran out of no-decompression time on a single mix. Using two or more gas mixes and knowing exactly when to switch means longer, more comfortable dives, plus the added safety of redundant gas and equipment.
Can be taken as a standalone course, or combined with TDI Decompression Procedures.
What you'll learn:
Advanced Nitrox picks up where TDI Nitrox leaves off, going deeper into:
Physics and physiology of diving with gas mixes above 40% oxygen
Gas planning, dive tables, dive computers, oxygen and nitrogen limitations
Equipment considerations, cylinder labeling, analyzing nitrox mixtures, gas blending procedures, and oxygen service ratings for gases above 40% oxygen
Some of the skills you will complete in this course include:
- Buoyancy control — holding a fixed position in the water column without moving hands or feet
- Awareness of your buddy and team through communication, proximity, and team-oriented practices
- Managing a free-flow from your primary regulator, shutdown cycle, and switch to backup
- Proper safety stops while maintaining neutral buoyancy
- Sharing air as both recipient and donor, in a controlled manner, while holding position
- Correct body position — horizontal, streamlined trim while moving forward
- Sound stress analysis, both self and buddy
What’s in it for you?
- The ability to dive using EAN 21 through 100% oxygen, provided the diving activities, areas, and environmental conditions approximate your training
- Eligibility to enroll in TDI Decompression Procedures, TDI Semi-Closed Rebreather, and TDI Closed Circuit Rebreather courses
TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver minimum certification requirements:
- Satisfactorily complete the course and written exam
- Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently
- Demonstrate mature, sound judgment in dive planning and execution

Advanced Nitrox Training
Advanced Nitrox dives are generally done in open water, on the reefs of Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya. If weather doesn't cooperate, I can teach it in one of the area's deep lagoons instead — and if you've already got Full Cave training, we can run it in the caves of the Riviera Maya.
So come train in Mexico and become a TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver.
